She is of Mexican-American heritage and is American in citizenship. From the time she was a kid, she has had a strong desire to participate in sports. Gerina took up golf when she turned 15 years old. Gerina was a student at Goddard High School for her secondary education. She was the winner of her place in the New Mexico State Golf Tournament at the age of high school. Also, she was an athlete in volleyball who played at the state level.
